Conducting Fellows have individualized and group lessons throughout the Academy. At the end of the Academy they conduct the orchestra and a Vocal Fellow through a complete aria. The performance is filmed and the footage is given to the Fellow for their own use. The opera itself is conducted by the Academy's music director.

Directing Fellows work directly with the Artistic Director, learning how to work with singers and how to think creatively. Under his guidance each Fellow develops their own production concept and builds a portfolio of their own design. The majority of this fellowship occurs through 1 on 1 sessions online before the academy begins.

Applicants indicate fellowship interest within the NYOA application. Fellowship candidates complete an additional interview as part of the audition process. All Conducting and DIrecting Fellows perform in the opera. We beleive it is important for future leaders in the arts to gain a variety of perspectives throughout the process.
