The transition from high school to a successful conservatory candidate can often feel overwhelming. National Youth Opera Academy helps bridge that gap. By introducing the real rehearsal process of a professional opera, students leave with a foundational understanding of the industry that most singers don’t encounter until college or later.
The only way to truly learn how to be a professional opera singer is by performing. Participants take on a fully staged production with orchestra, costumes, sets, and lighting at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in downtown Santa Fe. Alongside daily coaching, acting and movement classes, and career insight sessions, NYOA fosters an environment where students grow as performers and discover the path to their future.
In addition to being one of the premier summer destinations in the United States, Santa Fe is rich in culture and home to the Santa Fe Opera. With this stunning location and exclusive collaboration with The Young Voices of The Santa Fe Opera, NYOA students have the unique opportunity to witness opera performed at the highest level. Participants will attend a Santa Fe Opera performance, meet cast members, and step backstage to see how world-class productions come together.
All NYOA faculty are working professional artists performing at The Metropolitan Opera, European houses, and leading U.S. companies. Instructors bring current knowledge, professional networks, and real-world expertise into every rehearsal and class. Together, they create a supportive environment where young artists learn directly from the best in the field.
This mentorship also continues beyond the summer. NYOA extends after the 11-day program, offering support throughout the year, including assistance with auditions, college decisions, and professional introductions.
